10th Annual Breathe Youth Fest 2024
Every year since 2013, Breathe California Sacramento Region has held a Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest, encouraging middle and high school students to submit short videos on harmful effects of commercial tobacco. The PSA contest comes to a close by screening and announcing the winners at the Breathe Youth Fest, held this year on January 26, 2024.
A great time was had by all at the Sacramento Youth Center, who were kind enough to host us! We welcomed over 40 attendees who all received swag bags with generous donations from The Sacramento LGBT Community Center, The SOL Project, Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, SMUD, Sacramento County Office of Education Prevention Department, Folsom Cordova Unified School District Health Services, Health Education Council, Sacramento Regional Transit and Sacramento County Tobacco Education Program. Attendees were able to take polaroid photos at our ‘photo booth’, relieve stress with coloring pages, make friendship bracelets, sing karaoke, play cornhole, ring toss, and giant Jenga games, and set health goals for their future. The evening kicked off with introductions from Youth Advisory Board (YAB) members and was followed by a get-to-know-you BINGO game, a Jeopardy-style quiz game with tobacco-themed questions, and time to enjoy free activities.
The announcement and screening of the PSAs was a definite highlight, with many of the winners in attendance! Congratulations to all the 2024 winners with an appreciation for every submission we received! Winning PSA videos can be viewed on our website: https://sacbreathe.org/psa/
Rounding out the evening was a drawing to give away over 25 raffle prizes! Huge thanks to the generous donations in raffle prizes that we received from In-N-Out Burger, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, California Automobile Museum, Crocker Art Museum, and Golfland Sunsplash Roseville.
